Two Decatur men initially arrested in August in connection with a shooting and theft of the victim’s possessions have been formally charged — one with attempted murder and the other with first-degree theft of property.
A Limestone County grand jury recently indicted 128 people following proceedings the week of Oct. 22-26. Among those indicted were Dewey Wayne Bishop, 30, of 4335 Bennich Road S.E., on a charge of attempted murder, and Brandon Mitchell Latham, 32, of 1615 11th St., Apt. 107, on a charge of first-degree theft of property.
The two men were initially arrested in August following the shooting of Steven Michael “Mike” Morrissey, 28, of 309 Longview St., Athens. Morrissey was found on the floor of his home just after midnight Saturday, Aug. 4, with a .45-caliber handgun wound between his eyes. He was taken to Athens-Limestone Hospital and then transported by MedFlight to Huntsville Hospital, where he underwent surgery and later recovered.
Bishop and Latham were arrested later that Saturday afternoon in connection with the incident. Latham took Athens detectives to the place he had hidden the property, including guns and computers, stolen from Morrissey. Bishop, under questioning, also led detectives to some other firearms stolen from Morrissey.
