Two Athens men have been arrested for allegedly stealing tractor tires and selling them at a farm auction in Missouri.
Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said Wednesday deputies arrested Daniel Lynn King, 20, of 800 Tanglewood Drive, Apt. 315, and Justin Colby King, 18, of 16253 Log Cabin Road on charges of first-degree theft.
The two men are accused of stealing tractor tires and rims valued at $12,000 from a home on Humphrey Road in the Tanner community sometime on May 5 or 6. Blakely said the men sold the equipment at a farm auction in Missouri. The sheriff said the two men are also suspects in a recent theft in the northwest part of the county.
The two men remained in the Limestone County Jail Wednesday, with bail set at $5,000 each on the felony charges.
Sheriff’s investigators are still looking into the case and will likely arrest another suspect, the sheriff said.
In a separate incident, the sheriff’s department arrested James E. Scott and Jacob Dewight Robertston, both of Killen, for allegedly stealing about $18,000 worth of scrap metal on U.S. 72 West.
Blakely said the arrests “might clear up a bunch of other thefts when everything is sorted out.”
