Limestone and surrounding counties will be under a winter storm warning from 6 p.m. Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.
Check back here for closings of schools and offices as they are announced.
A new estimate of possible snow accumulation is from 4 to 7 inches, said forecaster Kurt Webber.
“It could be a little heavier” depending on the storm’s movement, he said. “It’s still a little up in the air.”
Snow should begin falling in Limestone County between 6 and 8 p.m. Sunday and accumulation should begin between 8 and 10 p.m.
“Most of the snow will probably fall this evening,” Webber said. Some snowfall is expected to continue into Monday but some melting may occur as temperatures rise above freezing.
Unlike the slushy Christmas snow, this accumulation is likely to be more hazardous for motorists.
“It will probably change over to mix of sleet, snow and freezing rain and create a thin coat of ice on top,” Webber said. Only a few hundredths of an inch of ice may accumulate here.
Ice is expected to be more of a danger farther South, where a half inch to an inch of ice may accumulate.
