Early hopefuls announce candidacy in 2014 sheriff's race

— The 2014 race for Limestone County sheriff is already heating up, with two Republicans ready to challenge longtime sheriff Mike Blakely.

Lauderdale County Sheriff’s deputy and teacher Randall McCrary and Alabama State Trooper Eric Smith confirmed Friday they plan to enter the 2014 sheriff’s race.

Though the election is 20 months away, two Republicans are already making their political ambitions known — McCrary with an advertisement on page 16 of today’s News Courier and Smith on Friday through the online social media network Facebook.
