Athens firefighters quickly extinguished a kitchen grease fire about 12:15 p.m. today on Brownsferry Street.
The occupants of the home at 1303 Brownsferry were able to evacuate.
Firefighters subdued the fire, then worked to remove heavy smoke from the home using a large fan.
Three engines responded.
