The Athens-Limestone Community Association has chosen CMH Architects of Birmingham to be the design firm to the Trinity High School and Fort Henderson Site Museum and Complex, according to association Chairman Ed Gilbert.
The project architect is Athens native Jeff Tosh. He is a LEED accredited professional. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council and provides a set of standards for environmentally sound construction.
The Trinity High School and Fort Henderson Site Museum and Complex will be an interactive museum celebrating the history of the site from Civil War times until the site was developed into Trinity High School. The school closed in 1970 when schools were integrated.
“We are extremely excited to be chosen as the architect for this project,” said Tosh, who grew up on Coleman Hill not far from the site. “A site like this is so rich in history and has a very important and interesting story to share with us. Because of this, the museum has the potential to become one of the city’s top tourist attractions.
“The city of Athens is very important to me and I want to stay involved in its growth and development.”
CMH Architects has a project portfolio spanning 30 years with projects in 27 states. Notable projects in Alabama include Auburn University’s Miller Gorrie Center, the first LEED Gold Certified building in the state, and the Summit mixed-use development in Birmingham.
