MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Towns along U.S. 80 in Alabama are preparing for a yard sale May 31 through June 2 that will stretch from Phenix City on the Georgia state line to Cuba on the Mississippi line.

The director of the Alabama Rural Development Office, Ron Sparks, said towns along the highway are setting aside sites for vendors in what organizers are calling the "World's Widest Yard Sale." Sparks said it's an entertaining way to showcase Alabama's Black Belt region and generate revenue for communities along the way.

Towns participating include Tuskegee, Shorter, Pike Road, Montgomery, Pintlala, Lowndesboro, White Hall, Selma, Uniontown, Marion Junction, Gallion, Faunsdale, Demopolis and York.

Sparks said he wants to grow the yard sale in future years to include other states along U.S. 80.
