Near-record heat expected across Alabama

— BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Forecasters say temperatures are expected to again challenge record highs across Alabama.

The Birmingham News reports (http://bit.ly/IgT7QQ) that Sunday's high of 87 degrees in Birmingham narrowly missed the record-high 89 degrees for the date, which was set in 1915.

The National Weather Service said it reached 87 in Tuscaloosa on Sunday, nearly matching its record of 90 degrees.

In Anniston, Sunday's high of 88 degrees was just shy of matching its record of 90 degrees.

The National Weather Service is predicting a high near 88 degrees in Mobile; 89 degrees in Huntsville and Birmingham; and near 91 degrees in Montgomery.
