A convicted sex offender has been released from the Limestone County Jail after being arrested for moving to a residence with children and for moving without first notifying authorities as required under Megan’s Law.
Limestone County Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Capt. Stanley McNatt said deputies arrested J.D. Barnett Jr., 35, of 20585 Cairo Hollow Road in Athens Thursday for allegedly moving without reporting to Investigator Mike Gunter, who tracks the county’s sex offenders,
Barnett was released after posting bail of $10,000.
He became a registered sex offender after being convicted of first-degree sexual abuse involving a 15-year-old girl in Limestone County, according to the Alabama Department of Public Safety website.
