Floods cut part of I-10 as Debby storms over Florida

ST. GEORGE ISLAND, Fla. (AP) — Parts of the main interstate highway across northern Florida were closed by flooding Tuesday as Tropical Storm Debby hung stubbornly offshore over the Gulf of Mexico, threatening up to two feet of rain in places.

After raking Florida's Gulf coast with high winds and heavy rain, Debby promised to bring more of the same in the coming days as it drifted on a path forecast to take it over the state and east into the Atlantic by Friday.

Pain at pump decreases as gas prices fall

Bargain shopping doesn’t apply to just looking for great deals in the supermarket anymore, but also at the gas station. And it’s paying off.

Triple A Alabama spokesman Clay Ingram said looking for the best prices at the pump has helped drive the cost of a gallon of fuel back down to reality. April had the average price at $3.39; yesterday the average in Alabama was $3.09.

City Council approves CNG stations

The Athens City Council re-enforced its commitment to compressed natural gas Monday by approving two new CNG filling stations in the city limits.

The estimated cost of the public fast-fill and private slow-fill station is more than $614,000. The public station, however, could provide a financial boon for the city, as it would be the only one between Birmingham and Nashville.

Expansion, rule changes OK with SEC hoop coaches

Kentucky's outspoken men's basketball coach John Calipari has long championed the talent and depth in the Southeastern Conference — even when the NCAA tournament selection committee didn't share his optimism.

Bridal party joins newlyweds in taking the plunge

SHELBYVILLE, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan wedding party joined the bride and groom in taking the plunge over the weekend when the boat dock they were lined up on for pictures gave way.

No one was hurt Saturday when newlyweds Eric and Maegan Walber fell into the water along with their bridal party at Bay Pointe Inn on Gun Lake in Shelbyville. The town is about 25 miles south of Grand Rapids.

Video shows the group casually standing and talking when the dock collapses into the water.

Eric Walber tells WOOD-TV that they were on the dock for about 30 seconds when it started to lean and tilt.

Maegan Walber says the fall was scary for a moment because her gown made it difficult to get her footing. But, she says she "came up laughing."
