Three children found living in a Limestone County home strewn with pet feces, garbage and clothing were placed in foster care Wednesday, an official said. Their parents could face criminal charges.
“It is an extremely bad situation,” Sheriff Mike Blakely told The News Courier Thursday. “Nobody should be living in that kind of filth.”
Blakely said his department received a call Wednesday morning from a 17-year-old at the mobile home on Zehner Road, who reported being tired of living in filth.
A deputy was dispatched and found the teenager along with two siblings, ages 11 and 5, in the home.
“There was dog and cat feces throughout the house, including on the dining room table, and there was garbage and clothes scattered throughout,” the sheriff said.
The parents were at the hospital, where the mother was having surgery, Blakely said. He did not know the nature of the surgery the mother was undergoing.
An investigator was called to the home, along with the Department of Human Resources, and the three children were places in foster care, the sheriff said. He did not know if all three children were placed in the same home.
Although no charges have been filed at this time, the matter is still under investigation by the DHR and the Sheriff’s Department, Blakely said.
“It’s possible charges will be filed,” he said.
