I am running for circuit court clerk because I was asked to. I was deeply touched and honored when I found out that I was considered worthy of the office and knew that I had some mighty big shoes to fill.
When I was told that Charles Page, our current circuit clerk — who has served this county for 24 years with distinction — was retiring, it caught me by surprise. I was even more surprised that there wasn't a Democrat running to take his place.
Now I know that this isn't a political office, but it seemed unfair to me that the Democrats weren't being represented in this race, especially considering how great a job a Democrat had done for the past 24 years.
It is time for the people of my generation to step up and start leading. So, I gave it some thought, spoke to my wife, family and friends and decided to run.
I bring 15 years of customer service to the table and that is a lot of what the circuit court clerk office does. The legal system can be intimidating and it's not like you can choose to go one county over because they have better customer service. But you do have a choice in electing who is there to serve you.
Wouldn't it be nice to have someone there to help walk you through the system and make sure you are taken care of and have your day in court?
When you have to pay child support, a speeding ticket or a court-ordered fine, you're probably not having the best day. You should be served by someone who is friendly, understands where you're coming from and treats you like you're doing the right thing.
I am that person. I believe that a public servant is there to do exactly that, serve the public. I believe that since you have a choice, I promise to be the best choice.
I believe in the Golden Rule and would apply that principle to serving the people of Limestone County the same way I would want to be served — with kindness, respect and fairness. That is why I am asking for your vote.

The Athens City Board of Education voted 5-2 Wednesday to hire William "Trey" Holladay as superintendent contingent on contract approval. Holladay, a 1987 Athens State College graduate, is the principal of Oxford High School and director of alternative programs and athletics for Oxford City Schools.
