ASU students participate in Athens, Ohio, exhibit

— Seven pieces of art created by Athens State University students will be shown at an exhibit in Athens, Ohio.

The event, Athens Voices USA, honors artwork from artists who live within a 30-mile radius of any community named Athens in the United States.

The jury for Athens Voices USA met in Athens, Ohio, at The Dairy Barn Arts Center on Dec. 3. After five rounds of viewing and consideration of 359 individual works, they chose the 76 pieces that will compose the Athens Voices USA ’13 exhibition.

Seven of these 76 pieces are from students majoring at Athens State University and attending classes at the Alabama Center for the Arts.

Featured works will include:

• Katelin Harris, “Spiral: Falling to Earth in a Funk”

• Robin Locke: “Smokey Mountains”

• Heather Snow: “Black and White” and “Old Flower”

• Adrianna Stephens: “Needs More Serotonin,” “The Less Engaged” and “Got the Funk”

Snow and Stephens’ works were created using software called Processing, a graphic design software rarely taught anywhere but featured prominently in the Athens State University’s art department’s computer graphics class.  All are students of Professor Pamela Keller.

The Athens Voices USA exhibition will be on display at The Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, Ohio, from Jan. 18 through March 10.
