ATHENS —
Athens Police have identified a suspect in Sunday’s robbery at the Raceway convenience store on U.S. 72 East and they need the public’s help in finding him.
Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said today investigators had obtained a first-degree robbery warrant for John Robert Johnson III, who has lived in both Athens and Huntsville. “We’re asking anyone with information on Johnson to call the Athens Police Department at 256-233-8700,” Johnson said today.
The the crime occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
“The clerk told officers a black male wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt, black jacket, white tennis shoes and dark sun glasses entered the store and demanded the money,” Johnson said.
Although the suspect indicated he had a pistol, the clerk did not see one. The robbery received an undisclosed amount of cash and left walking west, the chief said.
