Gospel lessons. The public is invited to a series of gospel lessons at 7 through tonight, Sept. 21, at the church of Christ  in Capshaw at 29755 Capshaw Road. Speaker for the week is Tommy Andrews. Information and directions: 256-771-0390 and 232-0023.

Chicken stew. Full Gospel Tabernacle Church on Seven Mile Post Road will have chicken stew Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at noon: $26, gallon; $13, half-gallon; $5 per bowl with drink. Stew will be cooked by Jerry Donald Adams of JD’s Sauces. Call 256-729-8235 or 256-77-1367.

Sisters@SONrise. New Life Church at 2314 South Hine St. will host its Sisters@SONrise worship at 6 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. Pastor Antoyne L. Green will preach. The Sisters@SONrise Choir and the New Life Reunion Dance Ministry will minister. Tonya Williams will lead the service. The public is invited; dress is casual. Appreciation service. Simply Amazing Ministries will hold a Pastor Kevin and first lady Christal Smith appreciation service at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, and at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23 at 1611 Lucas St. Bishop Milton Sledge of Lincoln Park Apostolic Church of Indiana will be guest speaker on Saturday. • Homecoming. New Beria Missionary Baptist Church on Alabama 99/Buck Island Road will host its 129th Church Homecoming with services at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday. Sept. 23. Guest church will be Matthews House of Praise Missionary Baptist Church and Pastor Jeremiah Gardner. Lunch will be served between services.

Family and Friends Day. Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church at 14065 Lucas Ferry Road in Athens will host a Family and Friends Day at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, with Pastor Antoyne Green and the congregation of New Life M.B. Men’s and Women’s services. Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church will host Men’s and Women’s Day celebrations Sunday, Sept. 23. The speaker for the Women’s Day service at 11 a.m. will be Dr. Helen McAlpine, president of Drake Technical College. The service will be led by the Women of Mt. Zion. Pastor Larry Lockett and the New Hopewell Church family will be guests for the afternoon Men’s Day celebration.

Homecoming. Peace Missionary Baptist Church at 1214 Plainview Circle in Athens will observe its annual Friends & Family Day and Homecoming Celebration at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23. Pastor J.E. Turnbore will deliver the message at 11 a.m.  Pastor James Jamar of St. John M.B. Church of Athens will preach at 2 p.m.

Bouchet Thomas and the New Beria Missionary Baptist Church Family on Alabama 99, Buck Island Road, invite the public to their 129th Church Homecoming at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sept. 23.  Guest church is Pastor Jeremiah Gardner and his Matthews House of Praise M.B. Church Family of Pulaski, Tenn.

Cancer survivor speaker. Northside Church of Christ invites the public to worship at their 5 p.m. service Sunday, Sept. 23, and hear Rhett Bailey, a teenage cancer survivor, speak on the power of prayer that is inspired by his personal experience during diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

Gospel meeting. Ephesus Church of Christ at 21815 Elkton Road will hold a gospel meeting Sept. 23-26. Featured speakers Sept. 23 are Brad Tate, 10 a.m. and Matt Lannom, 5 p.m.; Sept. 24, Lance Taylor, 7 p.m.; Sept. 25, Jordan Lovell, 7 p.m.; Sept. 26, Kasey Harbin, 7 p.m.

Pancake breakfast. Group 3 of Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church will hold a pancake breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Applebee’s in Athens. Tickets available at church in advance or $5 at the door. Contact: Velma B. Stewart at 256-533-6354.

Prayer breakfast. St. Mark Primitive Baptist Church at 740 Sanderfer Road will host its annual prayer breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, featuring guest speaker Dr. Jameh Gardner. Public invited. Contact: 256-233-1700.

Prayer rally. A gospel and prayer rally will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in Fitness Park on West Washington Street. The event will include local singers, pastors, gospel and praise groups from Alabama and Tennessee. Food vendors present. Contact: John Axford 256-431-4111.

Dessert comedy theater. Ascension Lutheran Church on Oakwood Avenue in Huntsville will host a performance of “Sweet Life,” featuring comedy and dessert at 7 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 29. Friends and Family Day. Tanner Church of Christ at 19925 Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road in Tanner will hold Friends and Family Day Sept. 30 with Bible class at 9:30 a.m.  with speaker Charles Thompson; worship at 10:30 a.m. with speaker Mark Little; lunch; singing from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and a brief devotional by Charles Thompson. Pastor appreciation. The Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church will hold a morning of gratitude and appreciation honoring their pastor Anthony Stewart at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at 14065 Lucas Ferry Road in Athens. Women’s Conference. The sixth annual Round Island Creek Missionary Baptist Association Women’s Conference is set for Oct. 5-6. Carolyn Lucas, associate minister of Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church will speak at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 with music by Round Island Creek Women’s Choir. A panel discussion on “God’s Plan for Salvation” will be at 9 a.m. Oct. 6. Door prizes. Vendors available. Contact: Imogene Malone 256-232-6247.

Appreciation service. Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate their pastor and first lady fifth Appreciation Service at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7. Minister Tavares Townsend will preach at the 11 a.m. service. Pastor Charles Simmons and the Little Ezekiel Missionary Baptist Church will be in charge of the 2:30 p.m. service. Public invited.
