A preliminary hearing has been rescheduled for the man accused of shooting a motorcyclist on U.S. 72 East in September.
The hearing for Noah Andrew McGlawn, 20, of Whiteville, Tenn., will be held Nov. 13 in Limestone County Circuit Court. The hearing, which is conducted to determine whether there is probable cause to present the case to a grand jury, had been scheduled for Tuesday. However, Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones and defense attorney Dan Totten agreed to change the date. The motion did not specify the reason, only that they agreed. It is not unusual for hearing dates to be changed.
McGlawn is charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle in connection with the Sept. 10 shooting of cyclist Brandon Matlock, 23, of Athens. Matlock was passing McGlawn on U.S. 72 when he looked over and saw the accused pointing a handgun at him. McGlawn told Athens Police investigators a few hours after the shooting that he was angry with his father, who wanted him to go to trade school, and “just felt like shooting someone.”
He said he selected Matlock at random. The victim suffered wounds to the right shoulder and the lower, right back, but recovered.
McGlawn has remained in jail since the incident. He was denied bail after telling court officials if he was released he would do it again. McGlawn’s father told The News Courier in September that his son has a mental disability. He declined to tell the nature of the disability.
