If the air seems a little hazy this afternoon, you’re not just seeing things.
A dust storm that occurred Thursday across Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma has produced a dust plume that continues to travel through the Tennessee and lower Mississippi River Valleys.
The National Weather Service in Huntsville reports the depth of the dust plume is most concentrated below 5,000 feet and is producing hazy conditions and poorer-than-average air quality.
The air should improve, the NWS said, by this evening as the plume shifts to the east. Those sensitive to poor air quality may have some difficulty today and are advised to stay indoors.
