A Hartselle man charged with murder following a fatal wreck Sunday on Browns Ferry Road is accused of driving under the influence, an official confirmed Monday.
Timothy Alan Hall, 28, of 1833 Woodmont St., was charged with murder after his 2011 Volkswagen Jetta struck the motorcycle driven by Mark Henry Holt, 48, of Toney, at 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Limestone County Coroner Mike West pronounced Holt dead at the scene.
Hall was released from the Limestone County Jail at noon Monday after posting a $25,000 bail.
Huntsville Police spokesman Harry Hobbs said Hall was eastbound on Huntsville-Browns Ferry near Gray Road when he crossed the center line and struck Holt’s motorcycle, which was westbound.
Hobbs said Hall was charged with murder by car “due to possible alcohol and other controlled substances being involved.”
Toxicology tests on the offender are pending, he said.
Under Alabama law, a person can be accused of murder if he or she “recklessly engages in conduct that creates a grave risk to a person other than himself of herself and, thereby, causes the death of another person.”
The funeral for Holt — father of Mark A. Holt and Andrea Marie Holt — will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home in Athens. Visitation will be from noon to 1:45 p.m. prior to the funeral.
