A University of North Alabama student was arrested Monday and charged with raping a woman from Limestone County, who also is a student at the college.
Corey Langley Griffin, 20, of 817 E. Ford Ave. in Muscle Shoals, is charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy, said Capt. Lanny Coan with the Muscle Shoals Police Department. Griffin, a sophomore, is originally from Talladega and plays on the UNA tennis team as a walk-on, Coan said.
The woman, also 20, filed a report Saturday. She told authorities Griffin called her and asked for a ride to his home because he was at a party and was too drunk to drive. The woman reported she’d picked up Griffin at the party at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday and when she pulled into the driveway of his home, he assaulted her.
Griffin was suspended, according to UNA policy. Mark Linder said in an email: "It is the policy of the University of the North Alabama Athletic Department that any student-athlete charged with a felony is immediately and indefinitely suspended, pending adjudication through the legal process."
Griffin, who The TimesDaily in Florence reported has denied the allegations, was released from the Colbert County Jail on $100,000 bond, a jailer said.
