Deputies find man sought in meth case

An Ardmore man on the lam from authorities was arrested Saturday with a cooler full of items to make crystal methamphetamine, said a Limestone County Sheriff’s Department official.

Jason Wayne Sanders, 35, whose address is listed as 161 Ed White Road, Ardmore, was arrested on three outstanding warrants, including first-degree manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, records show.

Officials had been looking for Sanders since the landlord of a rental home at 25042 Elkton Road opened a bottle he found May 7 on the premises and was overcome by ammonia, Lt. Lance Royals said.

“He breathed in the fumes,” he said.

The landlord was treated at Athens-Limestone Hospital and released.

Limestone County Deputy Tom Gilbert saw a Chevrolet Blazer on Saturday matching one sheriff’s officials had been searching for and found Sanders, Royals said.

When Gilbert searched Sanders’ vehicle, he found what appeared to be precursors for making crystal methamphetamine in a cooler on the floorboard, and so called in Royals, who is a drug investigator.

Royals identified lithium batteries, bottles, Sudafed and other items used to make meth in the cooler, prompting an additional charge of second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance, he said.

“He had clothes in the vehicle and had probably been staying with people he knew,” Royals said.
