In tough economic times, merchants have to be flexible – even those selling crack cocaine.
An Athens man who allegedly accepted gift cards as payment for crack cocaine was arrested Monday night by Athens Police.
Anthony Delmar Anderson, 38, of 1927 Cain Drive was arrested after a search warrant was executed at his residence.
“He had been selling crack cocaine and prescription drugs,” said Capt. Marty Bruce. “Officers found 2 grams of crack cocaine, 11 Xanax pills, $899 in cash and $175 in department store gift cards.”
Bruce said Anderson was accepting the gift cards in exchange for crack cocaine.
He was charged with possession of a controlled substance and may face additional charges, Bruce said.
He was transferred to the Limestone County Jail where he remains in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
Investigator Greg Parnell is in charge of the case.
