Family history topic of Historical Society speaker

The Limestone County Historical Society will host speaker Robert Scott Davis at its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church’s Rodgers Center.

Davis, director of Family and Regional History Programs at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, will present the program Writing Biography, Family History and Local History, which is part of the Alabama Humanities Foundation 2007-2008 Road Scholars’ speaker program.

According to historical society member Linda Nelson, the program pioneers local and family history research in a college environment. The American Association for State and Local History gave Davis’ program the Outstanding Leadership in History Award of merit for 2006.

Davis holds a master of education degree in history from North Georgia College and a master of arts degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His has more than 1,000 publications on records and research include a number of books and more than 100 articles and reviews in professional historical, library, education, and archival journals, Nelson said.

Davis has been quoted in or by Time, Smithsonian, CNN, NBC, and the Wall Street Journal.

The public is invited to this event.
