41,000 voters get new ID cards; some polling sites change

Voter identification cards are now being mailed to more than 41,000 registered Limestone County voters, and polling places for some voters have changed, officials said.

Voters can use the cards for identification for Tuesday’s presidential preference primary at their respective polling places, said Limestone County Board of Registrars Chairman Lee Liveoak. Each card identifies the polling place for the voter in both city and county elections. Voters must vote at the polling place state on the card.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Limestone County Board of Registrars has been updating street addresses, zip codes and precinct information since June 2007, resulting in some changes.

Voters who previously voted at the Trinity Seventh Day Adventist Church will now vote at the St. Mark Primitive Baptist Church at 740 W. Sanderfer Road in Athens.

Those who previously voted at Segars Road Fire Department will now vote at the Lamb of God Lutheran Church at 11716 County Line Road in Limestone County.

“We encourage every voter to be aware of their voter identification card with special emphasis being given on their polling location,” Liveoak said.

An intensive update of the new centralized statewide Alabama voter registration system recently ordered by the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama Northern Division,” said Limestone County Probate Judge Mike Davis.

“The new system will enable the board to eliminate human error as to the assignment of polling place location to all voters in the county,” he said.

“I have great confidence that on Tuesday our voters list will be correct because of the Limestone County Board of Registrars,” Davis said. “I think we are going to be in good shape come election day.”
