Board offers limited ability

Dear Editor:

Relative to the latest Limestone County School Board meeting, there are several concerns here.

First, as a newcomer to the area, Limestone County Board of Education offers limited or no ability to understand the debate.

The Limestone County Board's Web site offers no communication tools to show meeting minutes, bio's of school board members, how to contact them, etc. It is hard to understand all the nuances of the debate without having all the facts. Having a Web site with posted minutes would certainly help present all the facts.

Second, having the Board meetings at 7 p.m. would help those of us who work in Huntsville to attend.

Getting off at 5 p.m. then fighting traffic makes it almost impossible to attend, and I would certainly love to attend.

Third, if the representation of James Shannon’s arguments is accurately represented in the News-Courier then it is Mr. Shannon that should resign.

The East Limestone area certainly appears to be growing faster than the rest of the county. It is likely East Limestone that will attract BRAC and others looking for great location and a nice place to raise children.

Mr. Shannon's “If-I-don't-get-something-you-don't-get- something-either” attitude is detrimental. This school board needs to do what is best for all children, not just those in their district.

We are all in this together but it appears from the article that Mr. Shannon doesn't feel that way. Of course if there was more information available in the way of meeting minutes or more convenient meeting times this might have appeared differently.

Fourth, where are the plans for new schools? Already Creekside is overcrowded and requires portables and judging from the growth things are only going to get worse.

Where are the loans for this? Where are the discussions of a building plan and details of when all aspects of my children's education will be addressed, physical as well as intellectual?

Sincerely

James C. Banks
