Dear Editor:
Following the tornado outbreak in April, I had a very close friend of mine in Phil Campbell who lost everything, including four direct family members. After days of helping clean up anything we could, we received a call from a friend that attends the Church of Christ. (My apologies, the exact name has escaped me at the moment). They asked if there was anything that they could do to help because they had set up a donation/distribution center at their church.
We immediately headed that way to pick up some necessities.
Upon arriving at the church, we met Mr. Roy Patton, owner of Patton furniture in downtown Athens, and his two sons. They invited us to their store and literally filled our truck and trailer with mattresses, bed springs and a chest of drawers. They would take no money for these items!
It is people like Roy Patton who make Athens a great community, and we will be forever greatful.
