Rogersville’s Hickory in the Park coming April 20-21

— Bluegrass music, a back yard barbecue cook-off and a mustang car show will all be part of the festivities during Hickory in the Park in Rogersville

The event will take place April 20-21 at Rogersville Recreation Park.

Entertainment includes Bluegrass Kats, Bluegrass Junction, Iron Horse, Canaan’s Crossing, Rank Strangers, The Weather’s Family, The Abernathy Band, Pam Thrower and Shine Band, and Jeff Whitlow and the Old Barn Band.

Whitlow and his Old Barn Band have had the opportunity to share the stage with many of country music's greatest, including George Jones, Charlie Daniels, Gene Watson, Merle Haggard, Jamey Johnson, Larry Gatlin, Aaron Tippin, Sammy Kershaw, Billy Joe Royal, Daryle Singletary, and more. They even performed at the Governors Mansion for Governor Bob Riley’s Inaugural Kick-Off Boot and Barbecue Party.

Whitlow has performed at Nashville’s World Famous Tootsies Orchid Lounge and Legends Corner. Located in the heart of downtown Nashville, both of these venues are enriched with deep country music roots, and have been played by all the greats of country music.

Other events at Hickory in the Park include a shade tree and buck-dancing contest.

In addition to music, there will also be back yard barbecue cook-off competition. The competition will include chicken and ribs.

A People’s Choice contest will also take place. Participants, not taking part in the barbecue cook-off, will get the chance to cook Boston butts with hopes of taking home top honors.

Vendors of all types are welcome. Spaces prices include a 10-by-10 for $25 or a 10-by-20 for $40.

Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Camping spaces are $125 for eight days including gate passes for two or $15 per night.

Admission to Hickory in the Park is $6 Friday night and $8 Saturday night. Children 12 and under admitted free.
