Performer displays ‘God-given’ musical soul
Music Review
With a voice soft as silk, Bianca Sandifer is a musician in Athens who you will want to keep your ears open for!
Though her unique singing voice is wonderful, Bianca also blows her audiences away with her guitar skills. Like Eric Clapton has his favorite Fender Stratocaster, Blackie, and B.B. King loves his Gibson ES-355, Lucille, this local great carries her acoustic electric Ibanez, Corrina, almost everywhere she goes. Bianca shares why Corrina is so special to her, “I knew I would have to have an acoustic electric guitar to perform and I didn’t have the money for one. I had been praying to God about it and a couple weeks later, a lady came up to me and said that God wanted her to give me her guitar.”
Bianca describes her style as soulful, real, up in your face and different. “I love that through music, I can be myself.” She says, “People can appreciate me through my music.”
Bianca performs comfortably as if she has been on stage most of her life. She pretty much has, as she started singing at church when she was four years old. Though she excels at guitar, Bianca says she was first interested in percussion. “Percussion was my life! Sheila E. inspired me so much. She’s amazing.”
Sandifer also lists Whitney Houston, Earth, Wind & Fire, Yolanda Adams, and Kirk Franklin as her childhood inspirations. As she grew up, different music was introduced to her and she developed an appreciation for different sounds like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Bob Segar, and Percy Sledge. Several local musicians have recently captured her ear, such as, singer/songwriter Eddie James, Micah Wally, Pastor Teddy Grover, and Athens rock band, Halo Stereo.
Future plans for Bianca include finishing school and doing mission work. “I want to finish school and become Dr. Bianca in music and education. Then I want to start touring and start a missions internship basically being a music missionary.
“I perform to show people that no matter where you come from, rich or poor, if you love music, then you should do it. I also perform to show people that thick chicks rock.”
