Harvest writer releases book aimed at kitchen cowards

For some men, there may be no need to fear the kitchen any longer thanks to a new book “Relax, Dad. It’s Just the Kitchen” released by a Harvest resident.

Written by Stan Reese, the book is available on Amazon.com and through the author’s website, www.RelaxDad.com.

The book contains common everyday kitchen advice for men who would like to find their role evolve into a cook. There are also more than six dozen simple recipes and a few personal stories from the author’s early days as a “kitchen coward.”

“If someone had written this book 25 years ago and given me a copy, my life would have been much simpler,” Reese said. “I was a single dad and I knew absolutely nothing about cooking or the kitchen or shopping.”

Drawing on more than two decades of experience as a single dad and now a new dad over the age of 40, the book was designed to help men grasp the basics of cooking breakfast, lunch, dinner and even holiday foods, desserts and party foods. There are also chapters about kitchen tools, staples for the pantry, safe food handling and general measurements.

“It really does simplify the process because, by nature, men make things difficult, especially in the kitchen,” Reese confessed.

Growing up in a traditional family as the youngest of five sons in LaGrange, Ga., the author admits that he was spoiled. He said he never even had to make his own sandwich much less boil water.

“I even added the recipe for boiled water in the book, kind of as a joke, but the truth is that I didn’t really know how to boil water when I became a single parent in 1988,” he said. “I really had to learn everything on my own.”

The book has 190 pages of advice, stories and recipes. It is available in paperback and as an e-book for $12.81.

Reese said there are no other cookbooks available written by a regular man, for a regular man with simple, but tasty recipes.

He added the book is a perfect gift for any man whether he is just starting out in the kitchen or whether he has been around the chopping block a few times.

It’s also an easy way for a wife to tell her husband that he needs to help out in the kitchen, he said.

The book will be available later this spring in participating bookstores.
