Country, gospel, bluegrass, patriotic, jazz, classical, and favorite tunes of the 40s and 50s — a concert coming to Athens to raise funds for Athens-Limestone Hospital just about covers the full gamut.
A group known as The Bretts are set to perform a variety show Feb. 1-2 in the Athens Middle School Auditorium, located at 601 South Clinton Street in Athens.
Having appeared in more than 3,000 live performances around the globe, The Bretts’ goal is to deliver high energy, high-caliber professional entertainment to audiences of all ages.
The group, made up of the Brett family from Branson, Mo., includes singers, songwriters, dancers and musicians. The group’s story began more than 30 years ago when Tom and Andrea Brett sang their first duet together. Their children, Briahna, Brydon and Garon, have since joined their mom and dad and together, they have performed their own show in the Silver Dollar City for the past 14 years.
In 2010, The Bretts were nominated for 21 awards, claiming honors in seven categories, including being voted Best Morning Show of the Year in Branson.
The Bretts will perform at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, and at noon and 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2.
“This is a really great show for the whole family,” said Athens-Limestone Hospital Foundation Director Shelli Waggoner.
Proceeds from the event will help Athens-Limestone Hospital remodel 52 patient rooms. “We plan to purchase new hospital beds, mattresses, TVs, night stands, over bed tables, two new guest chairs and fresh paint and wallpaper,” Waggoner said.
Tickets are $35 for pre-sold, $45 at the door and $15 for ages 13 and under. Groups of 50 or more can purchase tickets for $30 each. Admission for ages 2 and under is free.
Tickets are available at www.athenslimestonehospital.com or at First National Bank in Athens and Ardmore. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 256-233-9236 or mailing the Athens-Limestone Foundation office at 100 Sanders St., Athens, AL 35611.
“We are very excited to be able to do this project,” Waggoner said “We are excited about having The Bretts here and look forward to remodeling rooms for our patients and community.”
