Mobile school board gets proposal to use Tasers

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — A proposal has been presented to the Mobile County School Board that would allow security officers in the system to begin carry Tasers in August.

The five-member board heard the proposal Thursday night and will decide at a meeting Monday whether to spend $25,000 to supply Tasers to about 25 officers who patrol school hallways during the day and provide security on campuses at night and on weekends.

Bill Duffie, head of security for the Mobile County Public School System, said the officers would undergo thorough training this summer with the Mobile Police Department on how and when to use the weapons.
