UPDATED: Congressman Mo Brooks wins re-election

— Congressman Mo Brooks, R-5th, has been re-elected was elected Tuesday with approximately 67 percent of the vote, a nearly 10 percent higher margin of victory than 2010.

Congressman Brooks joined Madison County Republican candidates and a crowd of enthusiastic supporters at their victory party at the Space and Rocket Center.

"I am grateful for the enthusiastic support of Tennessee Valley voters, both during my first term in Congress and during my first re-election as an incumbent,” he said in a press release. “This landslide win reflects that I kept the promises I made when running in 2010. In the term ahead, I will fight to protect our national defense, guard our nation against insolvency and bankruptcy, and defend our liberties under the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution. Our nation faces a difficult and challenging recovery, and I am grateful for the support of North Alabamians that will enable me to keep fighting to restore America's economic prosperity.”

Rep. Brooks was elected to his first term in Congress in 2010. Following re-districting, the new Fifth District is composed of Lauderdale, Limestone, Madison, and Morgan counties, and most of Jackson County.
