When it comes to campaign contributions, Republican Brad Curnutt has a strong lead in the race to be the next Limestone County circuit clerk.
Curnutt raised a total of $25,445 in contributions between Jan. 31 and Oct. 26, compared to zero contributions raised by opponent Democrat Kris Allen between Jan. 31 and June 30, the last time Allen reported, according to documents at the Alabama Secretary of State’s office.
Allen, a Decatur car salesman who lives in Athens, believes his 15 years of customer-service training would make him the best choice for circuit clerk.
Curnutt, who worked for the Limestone County Sheriff’s Department for 18 years before taking a leave of absence to run for office, believes his law-enforcement background would make him the best choice for circuit clerk.
Curnutt’s campaign total including $13,465 in itemized donations and $9,330 in cash donations that did not have to be itemized. Among his contributors were:

Businesses: Sunrise Janitorial Service, $400; Jiffy Foods, $250; CR Mechanical, $2,000; CCS Garbage, $200; Cottonhead Farms, $250; and McCurry Motors, $500.
Political Action Committees: Alabama Realtors PAC/Athens-Limestone Association of Realtors, $1,005; Limestone County Republican Party/Executive Committee, $3,000; and Limestone County Republican Executive Committee, $1,000.

(One week’s report for Curnutt is incorrect. The March 9 report should list a total of $185 under contributions, not $6,394.07.
