Taylor notches up another big game for Wildcats

— Alex Taylor ran, plowed and even sailed through the air on his way to an impressive performance on the gridiron Friday night.

Against Brooks in a Class 4A, Region 8 contest, the West Limestone junior rushed 19 times for 316 yards and three touchdowns in what was his breakout game of the year. His three touchdowns came on runs of 45, 50 and 86 yards, as he helped the Wildcats to a 49-30 win and their first postseason berth in over a decade.

For his efforts, Taylor has been selected as this week’s News Courier Player of the Week.

Taylor was also recognized Tuesday in this week’s Alabama High School Athletic Association’s spotlight for his performance.

Other notable performances from across the county this week include:

Landon Stephens, Tanner:The Rattler quarterback finished the night with 147 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown in Tanner’s 43-7 win over Cleveland. His touchdown came on a 67-yard run.

Ryan Horton, Athens:Horton ran for 145 yards on 27 carries, as he eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark of his career Friday. He also added a 10-yard touchdown run in the Golden Eagle’s 27-6 win over Columbia.

Devin Robinson, East Limestone:Robinson racked up 134 yards rushing on just five carries to contribute to the Indians win over Lawrence County.

Jacob Petritsch, Ardmore:Petritsch kicked a 22-yard field goal with four seconds left in the game to give Ardmore an 18-16 win over East Lawrence  for their fourth consecutive victory.
