Calder's efforts help lead Tigers to third straight win

ARDMORE — Gavin Calder admitted he felt like a superhero Friday night following Ardmore’s Class 4A, Region 8 game against Wilson.

Though he wasn’t busy saving the world one villain at a time, he did manage to help the Tigers notch their third straight win of the season with a last second touchdown.

With 12 seconds remaining in regulation, the junior running back plunged in from the 1-yard line on third down, sealing the victory for Ardmore.

For his efforts, Calder has been selected as The News Courier’s Player of the Week.

“We knew we had to score on the last play,” Calder said. “ If we didn’t we knew Wilson would lay it down on us. All the pressure seemed it was on me, so when I got the ball, I just ran as fast as I could.”
