Hospice/MADD memorial service


Hospice of Limestone County and MADD are sponsoring a communitywide memorial service “Celebration of Remembrance & Hope” at 6 p.m. Thursday at Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Athens. The service is for anyone who as experienced the death of a loved one. Framed photos of loved ones are welcome. Contact: 256-232-5017.

ALERA day trip


The Athens-Limestone County Education Retirees Association is holding a day trip to Pond Springs, a historic home of Gen. Joseph Wheeler and Dot’s Soul Food on Friday. Departure is at 9 a.m. from the Kmart parking lot in Athens. Contact: Jerry George 256-729-1145. 

Leadership Day

Cowart Elementary School’s Leadership Day honoring military veterans will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Patriotic balloon release follows the program. All veterans are welcome. Cowart is located at 1701 W. Hobbs St. Contact: 256-233-6627.

Reading program


The Limestone County NAACP invites children ages 3-13 to attend the free Steps Book Club/Reading Program session at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Round Island Creek Mission Center, 13829 Lucas Ferry Road. Learning, lunch and fun provided.  Registration and information contact: 256-216-5668.

Veterans Museum anniversary

The Alabama Veterans Museum & Archives will hold their 10-year anniversary celebration honoring museum founder Ken David at noon Saturday. Refreshments will follow.

E-Reader classes

The Athens-Limestone Public Library is holding free e-Reader classes October through December. To find out class dates, times and schedule a short appointment, contact Laura at 256-232-1233. 

MEETINGS

• Sportsman Club. The Limestone County Sportsman Club will meet at 7 tonight, Nov. 1, at the Clubhouse on Kennedy Drive. Contact: Lyle Sadler 256-771-2029.

• Quilt Guild. The Quiltmakers Quilt Guild of Athens will meet tonight, Nov. 1, at First Church on Lucas Ferry. Social time is 6:15 p.m., Meeting begins at 7. Georgia Flanagan will show some of her purses and techniques for making them. Visitors are welcome. Contact: Gloria Carden 256-233-3113.

• Healing Hearts. The Healing Hearts Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, in the Education Department at Athens-Limestone Hospital. Call 256-233-9536 to sign up. The group meets the first Monday of each month and is on Facebook as Healing Hearts of Limestone County.

• AHS Class of ’56. The Athens High School Class of 1956 will meet for a Dutch-treat lunch at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Luvici’s, 105 Jefferson St. Contact: 256-232-3257.
