Benefit stew, auction

Circle J Ranch in Anderson will have a benefit stew and auction for a cancer patient today at 1650 County Road 181. Stew will be ready at 11:30 a.m. Auctioned will be cakes, pies, quarter horse, horse tack, big pictures, fishing tackle and furniture, among other items. Call Jerry Morris at (256) 710-9925.



Ardmore Parade

Shuttle available

Because of a shortage of parking at the Senior Center, there will be a shuttle available from the DHR parking lot the day of “We interrupt this program.”

Celebration of Remembrance

Hospice of Limestone County and Mothers Against Driving Drunk will host a “Celebration of Remembrance and Hope” at 6 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church. Call (256) 232-5017 for more information.

Used book sale

Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library will have a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the library.



‘Avoid heart attack’

Dr. Phillip Laney, president of the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Cardiologists, will present “9 Ways to Avoid a Heart Attack” in partnership with Athens State and Athens-Limestone Hospital from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday in McCandless Hall on campus.



Lincoln-Bridgeforth tree lighting

Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Committee is sponsoring its annual tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. Tuesday. There will be free toys and gifts and refreshments. Call (256) 874-0287.



AIS & AMS concerts

Athens Intermediate School Band and the Athens Middle School Band will present a Winter Concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the middle school auditorium. Admission is free.

Donnell Open House

AHS Band Concert

Athens High School Band and the Athens High School Jazz Band will present a Winter Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at Athens Middle School Auditorium. Admission is free.

Respite night

Caregivers Night Out will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Clements Baptist Church. This month will be their Christmas Party. Please make reservations by calling RSVP Office at (256) 232-7207 no later than noon, Thursday, Dec. 10.

• Coffee Call. Paul and Susan Nealy are sponsoring today’s Coffee Call at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives, from 8-9:30 a.m.

• Bethel Masons. The Bethel, Tenn., Masonic Lodge will serve a buffet breakfast from 7-9 a.m. today, Dec. 5. Proceeds go to charity.

• Eaton employees. Former employees of Eaton Corp. will meet for breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Shoney’s.

• AHS Band Parents. Athens High School Band Parent's Association will meet at 7 p.m.

• DAV meeting canceled. The Dec. 8 DAV meeting has been canceled due to a minor fire and a scheduling conflict. They will meet at the regular time in January.

• Touch Cancer Support. Touch Cancer Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Catfish Cabin 2. Please bring a $5 gift for an exchange game. Call (256) 232-6455.

• Legion party set. American Legion Post 49 and Ladies Auxiliary will have their Christmas party at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10. Finger foods will be served. There is a $10 spending cap on gifts for men or women.

• Retired teachers. A-L Education Retirees Association will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec.11 at Athens Recreation Center. Please bring an item for the scholarship fund silent auction and non-perishable items for food banks. Call (256) 232-6224.
