Chicken stew

The American Legion will host a chicken stew from 11 a.m. -2:30 p.m. today at the American Legion building on Cloverleaf Drive behind Staples. Call (256) 777-7207 for information.



Fall into Learning

A “Fall into Learning” event will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. today at Friendship United Methodist Church on Lucas Ferry Drive in Athens. Children from birth to age 3 and their parents can enjoy games, educational activities, snacks and door prizes at this free event, which is hosted by the Athens-Limestone County Family Resource Center. SATURDAY

Benefit stew

Precision Defense Systems is sponsoring a chicken stew at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at 17198 U.S. 72 West, next to the Water Authority building. There will be helicopter rides. All proceeds will be given to the family support group for the 203rd National Guard Military Police unit from Athens.

Charity flea market

The Lincoln Bridgeforth Park Committee is accepting applications for booth rentals for a Nov. 28 Charity Flea Market. A booth is $35 for all day. Call (256) 874-0287.



Jewelry sale

Athens-Limestone Hospital Auxiliary will have a $5 jewelry sale Nov. 23-24, beginning at 7 a.m. each day in the Education Department.



WLVFD turkey shoot

West Limestone Volunteer Fire Department will have a turkey shoot and stew at 10 a.m. Nov. 21. Goat and chicken stews will be ready at11 a.m. Call (256) 998-0847 or 233-7678, or on Saturday 233-5544



Masonic turkey shoot

North Border Masonic Lodge will have a turkey shoot and chicken stew at 9 a.m. Nov. 21 at the Sheriff’s Arena at Alabama 99 and Elm Street. Stew will be ready at 10 a.m. Call Mickey Robertson at (256) 232-2335.



‘We interrupt this program’

Tickets are on sale at $5 each for “We Interrupt this Program …’, a tribute to Pearl Harbor veterans, at the Veterans Museum and Athens Senior Center. The program will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at the senior center.



Elkmont Tour of Homes

Tickets are on sale for the Elkmont High School band’s annual Christmas Tour of Homes. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from any band member or booster, or the day of the tour at the reception. The tour will be from 4-8:30 p.m. Dec. 5 with a reception from 3-6 p.m. at Elkmont Methodist Church’s annex. Seven homes are on the tour. Tickets and maps available at the reception. Proceeds go toward the band’s trip to Williamsburg, Va.



Elkmont chili cook-off

Elkmont Band Boosters is accepting applications until Nov. 30 for booth rentals for its Dec. 12 chili cook-off. Rentals are $20 per booth and must be turned in with a registration form. Call Mike Ikard at (256) 431-0542 or Christie Winders at (256) 998-1234.

• ALCA town hall. Athens-Limestone Community Association will meet from 6-8 tonight at Round Island Creek Mission Center at 13829 Lucas Ferry Road to discuss the Fort Henderson/Trinity Project.
