Veterans Day Parade



The second annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. today and follows the Christmas parade route from Athens High School and through the downtown square to Hometown Grocery. Lineup will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m.



Coffee Call

The Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives Coffee Call, sponsored by Walter and Henry Miller, will be from 8-9:30 a.m. today at 100 W. Pryor St. For more information, call the museum at (256) 771-7578.





Buffet breakfast



The Bethel, Tenn. Masonic Lodge will serve a buffet breakfast from 7-9 a.m. today. Everyone is invited. Proceeds go to charity. All active military and veterans eat free.



Antique tractor rally



The Limestone County Farmers Federation Farm City Antique Tractor Rally is today in Elkmont. Unloading from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Snap-on-Tool plant on Wire Road and the travel route is 10 miles. Toys for Tots



Toys for Tots signup will be from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at the United Way office, 419 S. Marion St. Each family must bring birth certificates, Social Security cards and proof of residence for children age birth to 16. Call (256) 233-2323 for information.



WEDNESDAY



Veterans Day at VFW



The VFW invites the public to a Veterans Day observance at 10 a.m., Wednesday at the post on Alabama 127. Attorney General Troy King will be the guest speaker and free chicken stew will be served.



Fox closed for Vets Day



Fox Army Health Center will close Wednesday for Veterans Day. Advice nurses are available during non-duty hours at (256) 955-8888 or 1-800-223-9531.



UPCOMING



H1N1 flu clinic



The Limestone County Health Department at 20371 Clyde MabryDrive is having an H1N1 (swine flu) clinic Thursday and Friday, Nov. 12-13, from 4:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There is no cost, but please bring insurance, Medicare or Medicaid cards for administration purposes. Vaccine will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis.



Lunch & Learn



The Greater Limestone Chamber of Commerce will host “Lunch & Learn” from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 18. The speaker will be Roan Bradley of Bradley CPA Services, who will talk on



“American Recovery & Reinvestment Act a.k.a. 2009 Stimulus Package.” The fee is $10 for chamber members and $20 for non-members (includes box lunch). Please RSVP by calling (256) 232-2600 or e-mailing etta@tourathens.com.

The Farmers Market will not be open on Tuesdays throughout November.



West Limestone VFD fundraiser



A four-week, door-to-door fund-picture drive conducted by the West Limestone Volunteer Fire Department began Oct. 27. Donations go toward the purchase of new turnout gear for firemen.

A four-week, door-to-door fund-picture drive conducted by the Tanner Volunteer Fire Department began Oct. 28. Donations go toward the purchase of new turnout gear for firemen.

• Democratic Party. The Limestone County Democratic Party will meet at 9 a.m. today, Nov. 7, at the Sheriff's Rodeo Arena. Limestone County Probate Judge Mike Davis is guest speaker. For more information, call (256) 233-5980.

• Retired teachers. Athens-Limestone Retired Educators Association will take a trip to Jerry Brown Pottery in Hamilton Friday, Nov.13. Meet at the K-Mart Parking lot at 7:50 a.m. Make transportation arrangements by calling 232-2585. Fee is $2 per person for the pottery demonstration.
