o Judgment House. First Baptist Church of Ardmore is hosting a Judgment House as a Halloween alternative from 8-11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31; and 5-9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. Call (256) 423-3992.

o Homecoming Week. Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church on Wall Triana Highway will have homecoming week activities continue Friday, Oct. 30, 7 p.m. with worship in song; Sunday, Nov. 1, 6 p.m., Homecoming Celebration.

o Singing. Holt Road Baptist Church will hold a fifth Saturday singing at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 featuring The Kennedy Family. For information, call (256) 232-6216.

o Pancake breakfast. The youth group of Poplar Creek Baptist Church, 10880 Snake Road, will hold a fundraiser pancake breakfast at the church from 8-9:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. Plates will be $5 each. Proceeds go toward expenses for the annual trip to Pigeon Forge in January to attend Bible Conferences. For more information, call (256) 729-8084.

o Gospel meeting. Elkton Street Church of Christ at 7466 Elkton Pike in Elkton, Tenn., will host a gospel meeting at 10, 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 and 7 p.m. Monday-Wednesday featuring speaker Bill Hall. For information, call (931) 993-0360.

o Block party. West Highland Baptist Church will host its annual block party from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. Free food, fun and games. For information, call the church office at (256) 232-3397.

o Thrift workshop. Athens Church of God at Lucas Ferry and Quinn roads will host a workshop by Two Thrifty Sisters at 9 a.m. Nov. 14. Learn to save money and stretch a dollar. For more information, call (256) 232-9021.

    Benefit breakfast

    The Bethel, Tenn., Lodge 194 F&AM will serve a buffet breakfast to benefit charity from 7-9 a.m. Saturday at the Lodge building. Public invited. Nonperishable food items are being collected for the food bank.

    Memorial Day ceremony

    American Legion Post 49 will host a Memorial Day ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. Monday at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives at 100 W. Pryor St. in Athens. Lt. Gen. Richard P. Formica from Redstone Arsenal will be guest speaker.

    Local help is needed to ensure every deceased veteran in Limestone County has a flag placed on his or her grave this Memorial Day, Monday, May 28.     SATURDAY                                                                                                                                                 4 Paws and a Book
    A “pawsitive” reading experience dedicated to improving reading skills of children ages 5 and older, called 4 Paws and a Book will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. today at the Houston Memorial Library in Athens. Children can bring their own book or read a favorite of Miss Sophie Grey, a Yorkshire terrier, who will be present for the program.
