Red Cross blood drive

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Sunday in the gymnasium of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church at the corner of Old Railroad Bed and Capshaw roads.

Free Meal

Emmanuel Church of God in Christ will offer a free meal starting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at their location on 503 Hine Street. For more information, call Bill Downs at 256-431-1780.

TUESDAY

Jubilee Day

The Limestone County Chapter of the NAACP will host a Jubilee Day celebration at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church at 549 W. Elm St. in Athens. Minister Madison Brown of Decatur will speak. Theme is “Remembering the Past, Celebrating the Present, Moving to the Future.” Contact: Wilbert Woodruff at 256-227-8489.

Singing on the Square
Singing on the Square will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, June 21, featuring Dixie Bluegrass Boys and Tilford Sellers and the Wagon Burners. In case of rain, the event will move to the Limestone County Event Center. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs to the east side of Limestone County Courthouse for the free concert. Spaghetti supper
An all you can eat spaghetti supper, sponsored by the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, will begin at 5 p.m. Monday, June 17, at the Vietnam Veterans of America building, 17953 Elm St. Cost is $5 and includes spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and drink. Contact: Roxanne Haggermaker 256-374-2073.

Benefit car wash/raffle
A benefit car wash and raffle will be held from 8-11 a.m. today, June 15, in Applebee’s parking lot on U.S. 72 for an Athens child born premature and now in Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Car wash is $10 and participants receive a $5-off coupon for Appebee’s and are entered in a raffle later this month involving food items from several local businesses. Donations welcome. Flag Day
Athens State University will host its annual Flag Day ceremony sponsored by the Athens State Alumni Association at noon, today, June 14, in the Sandridge Student Center ballroom. A cookout will follow. Guest speaker is Lt. Gen. Jim Pillsbury, the retired deputy-commanding general of the U.S. Army Materiel Command at Redstone Arsenal.
