Ardmore Crape Myrtle

Ardmore Crape Myrtle Festival is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in John Barnes Park on Ridge Road. Bring lawn chair or blanket. Free admission. Games, entertainment and food.



Boy Scout car wash

There will be a car wash beginning at 8 a.m. today at Superior Bank in Elkmont to benefit the Boy Scouts of Elkmont.



Oak Grove decoration day

The Oak Grove Cemetery decoration day in the Goodsprings community is today. Those unable to attend can send donations to: Rhonda Long, 27242 Flanagan Road, Anderson, AL 35610.



NAACP picnic

The Limestone NAACP branch will host a picnic from noon until 4 p.m. today at Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the NAACP. Activities include free food, prizes, poetry, children’s games, singing, bingo, and a $100 cash prize giveaway. Firefighter breakfast

W.L. Class of ’89 reunion

The West Limestone Class of 1989 will celebrate their 20-year reunion with a family picnic from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. today at the Kids Dugout pavilion on U.S. 31. The reunion dinner will be from 6 p.m. until midnight in the River Room of Joe Wheeler State Park in Rogersville. Mental health planning

The Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama will have a public planning meeting for adolescent services from 12:30-2:30 p.m. and for adult services from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday at the center. Call Tammy Gilbert at (256) 260-7324.

At risk programming

Limestone County schools are offering non-profit organizations the opportunity to participate in providing programming to at-risk students. Applications may be picked up at 300 S. Jefferson St., by Sept. 15. Call Debbie Owens, At-Risk coordinator, at (256) 232-5353.



MEETINGS

• VVA. Vietnam Veterans of America will met at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the chapter building at Lucas Ferry Road and West Elm Street.

• AHS Class of ’56. Athens High School Class of 1956 and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Holiday Inn in Decatur for a Dutch-treat lunch. Call (256) 232-4815.

• American Legion. American Legion Post 49 and Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.

    A “pawsitive” reading experience dedicated to improving reading skills of children ages 5 and older, called 4 Paws and a Book will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. today at the Houston Memorial Library in Athens. Children can bring their own book or read a favorite of Miss Sophie Grey, a Yorkshire terrier, who will be present for the program.
