Preservation public meeting
The Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. today in Decatur to seek opinions and input from Limestone County residents about preservation and enhancement efforts here and in five area counties. The meeting will be at the Turner-Surles Community Center at 702 Sycamore St.

Benefit breakfast
The Bethel, Tenn. Lodge 194 F&AM will serve a buffet breakfast to benefit charity from 7-9 a.m. Saturday at the downtown Lodge building. Public invited. Nonperishable food items are being collected for the local food bank, which is running low on resources.
Boy Scout goat/chicken stew
The annual Boy Scout Troop 221 goat and chicken stew will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the West Limestone Volunteer Fire Department. Containers provided. Eat in or carry out by bowls, quarts and gallons. No pre-sales. Proceeds help pay for summer camp.

Tax Service Counseling
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program income-tax service will begin from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at First Baptist Church Youth Activity Center at the corner of Pryor and Clinton streets in downtown Athens. Sessions will continue every Monday and Thursday until April 15. No appointments will be given. Returns will be filed at no cost to the client. If interested, please bring tax returns from last year, Social Security numbers for each person in the household, birth dates for each person in the household, W-2 form(s) and 1099 form(s), if applicable. Elkmont beauty walk
Registration is underway through Feb. 26 for the eighth annual Elkmont High School band beauty walk to be held March 8-9. Preschoolers outside the Elkmont school district can enter. Need volunteers
