Flag retirement


The Limestone Republican Women will participate in a flag retirement ceremony and barbecue from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday in conjunction with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Public invited.

SUNDAY

Free meal


Free beans with ham and cornbread will be served at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the pavilion behind Seven Mile Post Road Church at 14435 Seven Mile Post Road in Athens. Contact: Bill Downs 256-431-1780.

MONDAY

Memorial Day ceremony


American Legion Post 49 will host a Memorial Day ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. Monday at the Alabama Veterans Museum, 100 W. Pryor St. Guest speaker is Lt. Gen. Richard P. Formica from Redstone Arsenal.

Memorial Day help needed

Local help is needed to ensure every deceased veteran in Limestone County has a flag placed on his or her grave this Memorial Day, Monday, May 28. Anyone who would like to help with the task can contact Bob Borden at 256-509-1306 or contact Sandy Thompson at the Alabama Veterans Museum at 256-771-7578.

• Blacksmiths. Athens Blacksmith Forge will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Travis Flemings shop Artistic Anvil, 203 Commercial Drive in Athens. Visitors welcome. The trade item is still any kind of candleholder. Bring something for iron in the hat. Water available. Bring lunch, or restaurants are nearby.
