Dems opening office


Limestone County Democrats officially open their 2010 campaign headquarters building at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at 209 W. Washington St. on the south side of the Limestone County Courthouse Square in Athens. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony, free food and fun. Call Pam Wallace at 256-444-1404.



LCCI training

Tutor training workshop

Used book sale

Friends of Athens-Limestone Public Library will have a used book sale from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday at the library.

Political forum

Music in the Parlor

Athens State University will host a free concert featuring T.G. Engel and Roger Martin at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the parlor of Founders Hall. This concert is open to the public and sponsored by the Livingston Concert Lecture Series.

Homemakers craft show


Limestone County Homemakers will host a craft show at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at the Cooperative Extension office in Athens across Washington Street from Post Office. Bring any craft you have made in the past year. Any member can be judged for state competition in October. Anyone can bring antique toys for display. Call 256-230-1111.

NACA craft show

The Northeast Alabama Craftsmen’s Association will host its free fall craft show — featuring the work of 200 craftsmen and artists from Alabama and elsewhere — from Friday, Sept. 17- Sunday, Sept. 19, at Von Braun Center South Hall in Huntsville. Hours are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Sept. 17-18 and noon-5 p.m. Sept. 19. A $20 gift certificate will be given away each hour. Proceeds help Senior Center, Salvation Army soup kitchen, Meals on Wheels, Alzheimer’s Day Care, Hope Place, CASA and scholarships for high school seniors. Call Annie Hannah at 256-880-7967.

Constitution’s 222nd anniversary

John Wade Keyes chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution invites everyone to join in celebrating the 222nd anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States from Friday, Sept. 17-Thursday, Sept. 23. Read a copy of the Constitution as a reminder of the rights promised to U.S. citizens. Join in Bells Across America by ringing bells at noon Wednesday, Sept. 22. Athens Fire golf tourney

Athens Fire Auxiliary will host a charity golf tournament at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Canebrake Golf Club in Athens. The four-man scramble, shotgun-start event is $400 a team and offers door prizes and prizes for first-through-third place and drive closest to the pin. St. Timothy mum sale

Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church at 207 E. Washington St. in Athens is sponsoring a sale of potted chrysanthemums to benefit the church’s multi-cultural pre-school program.
