Benefit car wash

A benefit car wash for 9-year-old Owens Elementary School student Colby Alred, who has been diagnosed with leukemia, will begin at 7 a.m. Friday at Advance Auto on U.S. 72 in Athens. Proceeds go to Alred and his family. May also donate in Colby Alred’s name at Redstone Federal Credit Union branches.

Caregivers night out

Respite night is from 6 to 9 Friday at Clements Baptist Church at 8690 U.S. 72 West in Athens. Make reservations at 256-232-7207 by noon today.

Dems opening office

Limestone County Democrats officially open their 2010 campaign headquarters building at 209 W. Washington St. on the south side of the square at 11:45 am Saturday. There will be a ribbon-cutting, free food and fun. Call Pam Wallace at 256-444-1404.

St. Timothy mum sale

Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church, 207 East Washington St., is sponsoring a sale of potted chrysanthemums to benefit the church’s multi-cultural pre-school program. A “pawsitive” reading experience dedicated to improving reading skills of children ages 5 and older, called 4 Paws and a Book will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. today at the Houston Memorial Library in Athens. Children can bring their own book or read a favorite of Miss Sophie Grey, a Yorkshire terrier, who will be present for the program.
