Cars on the Square


The 5th annual Cars on the Square car show will take place 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. today, April 28. Cost to show a vehicle is $20 and can be paid today. Registration is from 7 a.m. to noon. Cub Scout fundraiser

The Cub Scout Pack 24 Flapjack Fundraiser will be held from 8-10 a.m. today at Applebee’s restaurant in Athens on U.S. 72. Cost is $5 a ticket.

Walking tours

The final April Historic Walking Tour is today. Walkers should meet at 9:45 a.m. at the Athens Visitors Center at 100 N. Beaty St. Walks begin promptly at 10 a.m. and last about an hour. Free stew

Dine in-only free stew will be served starting at 2 p.m. today at Jimmy Gill Park on Sanderfer Road at Hine Street.

Benefit singing

A benefit singing to celebrate the legacy of Dewey Chastian will be held today at Majestic Chapel on Hays Mill Road. Food sales begin at 5 p.m. and singing at 7. Children’s chorale


The Heritage Children’s Chorale will present “Bound for Glory” as part of the Spring Concert Series at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Round Island Baptist Church, 14790 Browns Ferry Road in Athens. Free admission. The choir is made up of children ages 8-18 from North Alabama and southern Tennessee.

Camp Hope training


Volunteer training sessions for Camp Hope 2012 will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, and Sunday, May 6, at the Hospice of Limestone County office, 405 S. Fashion show and luncheon


Athens-Limestone Beautification Board annual Dogwood Festival Vintage Fashion Show and Luncheon to be held at noon Tuesday, May1 at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center has been canceled. If tickets have already been purchased, contact the person who sold the tickets for a refund.

Firefighter fundraiser


The Owens Volunteer Fire Department door-to-door fundraiser began April 25 and continues for approximately four weeks. Donations will be used to help purchase hoses and equipment for their new firetruck.

• Blacksmiths.
Athens Forge will meet at 10 a.m. today, April 28, at Travis Flemings shop Artistic Anvil, 203 Commercial Drive in Athens. Trade item for this month is again any kind of candleholder, and bring something for Iron In The Hat. Water and ice provided. Bring lunch or eat at nearby restaurants.

• NARFE. National Active and Retired Federal Employees chapter 1480 will meet at 9 a.m. today, April 28, at the Veterans Museum on Pryor Street. Guest speaker is Tammy Haymon from Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful. Breakfast served. Contact: Dean Morgan 256-233-0248.
