Caregiver’s Night Out will be from 6-9 tonight at Lindsay Lane Baptist Church, 1300 Lindsay Lane.

SATURDAY

Ham shoot/chicken stew

Athens Masonic Lodge No. 16 will host a ham shoot from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the corner of Elm Street and Lucas Ferry Road. $3 a shot. Chicken stew ready at 10 a.m. for $18 a gallon. Additional information: Bob Hickman 256-233-2336 or Mickey Robertson 256-232-2335.

Used book sale

The Friends of Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday at the library at 405 E. South St. Contact: 256-232-1233.

Rescue squad garage sale

Athens-Limestone Rescue Squad is in need of saleable items for an upcoming garage sale. Call to arrange pickup or drop off items at 1401 Freeman Ave.  All types of items needed. Contact: J.R. Creel at 256-434-6355.

Blood drives

The American Red Cross will host an employee only blood drive at Limestone Correctional Facility from 1-6 p.m. Wednesday, March 27. A second drive will be held from 2-7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Vietnam Veteran’s chapter 511, 17953 W. Elm St.

Summer Library Pages

Summer Library Page applications are available at Athens-Limestone Public Library through April 13. Teen summer volunteers must be at least age 13 and have completed seventh grade by June 1. Applications are also available at www.alcpl.org.  Contact Kelli at 256-232-1233 with questions.

AHS greenhouse

Athens High School greenhouse is now open with vegetables, ferns and an assortment of bedding plants. Hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays and 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays.

Vidalia onions sale

Athens Ladies Civitan Club is taking orders for Vidalia onions. Onions are $10 for 10 pounds. Order deadline is April 12. Projected delivery date is early May. Orders taken by phone at 256-232-2865 or 256-729-1255, or by mail at P.O. Box 1814, Athens, AL 35612. Mail checks by April 12 payable to ALCC. Include name, address and telephone number.

MEETINGS

• NARFE. National Active and Retired Federal Employees chapter 1480 will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Veterans Museum in Athens. Guest speaker will be Tammy Burks of American Red Cross. Breakfast served.  Call Dean Morgan at 256-233-0248.

• Athens Forge. Athens Blacksmith Forge will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at Travis Flemings Artistic Anvil Forge on Commercial Drive in Athens. Visitors welcome. Meeting includes a demonstration of kitchen utensils. Contact: John Guenther 256-230-2900.

• Alzheimer’s support. The Athens Alzheimer’s Group will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, March 25, at the Athens Senior Center on Pryor Street. Caregivers or anyone with a family member or friend with Alzheimer’s is invited to attend. Contact: Sharon Griffis 256-874-0888.

• Soil and Water. The Limestone County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at 306 BBQ, 23101 U.S. 72 East in Athens. The public is invited.

    The Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Limestone County Event Center on Pryor Street across from the Veterans Museum. Guest speaker will be Major Gen. Lynn Collyar, commanding general of the U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Command. Refreshments to follow. Contact: 256-771-7578.
