• St. James breakfast/movie. The men of St. James and Blackburn Chapel will have breakfast and a movie at 9 a.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall at 920 Moulton St. NW in Decatur. Men of all ages welcome. Contact: 256-355-0827.

• Musical appreciation. Greater Hope M.B. Church will hold a musical appreciation for musicians Kendrick Patton and Tevian Jackson at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at 14065 Lucas Ferry Road. Pastor White and the congregation of David Temple M.B. Church of Tanner are in charge of the service.

• Holiday celebration. Holiday Praise Christmas Celebration will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at St. Mark P.B. Church, 740 Sanderfer Road. A variety of groups will participate in the annual Christmas program. Public invited. Contact: 256-233-1700.

• Winter Youth Concert. West Highland Baptist Church will host the The Winter Youth Concert, Saturday Dec. 8. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7. The concert will feature the Zach Fleming Band, various local artists, and guest speaker Robert Ekis. Contact: 256-565-5331.

• Adventurous Christmas. The Cherub and Wesley Children’s choirs, of Athens First United Methodist Church will present their Christmas musical, “Have an ADVENTurous Christmas,” on Sunday, Dec. 9. Choir children range in age from 4 years through fifth grade and are directed by Mary Stephenson. The performance will be during the 9 a.m. worship service, First Light, held in the Beasley Center of the church.

• Family and Friend Day. The Mount Pleasant CME Church Family and Friend Day celebration will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at 423 Bethel St. in Hartselle. Pastor Hurley Grisson and Oak Grove CME Church family will be the guest church. Contact: Priscilla Davis 256-509-4212 or 773-7430.

    FRIDAY
    Singing on the Square

    Singing on the Square will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, June 21, featuring Dixie Bluegrass Boys and Tilford Sellers and the Wagon Burners. In case of rain, the event will move to the Limestone County Event Center. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs to the east side of Limestone County Courthouse for the free concert.     Spaghetti supper

    SATURDAY
    Benefit car wash/raffle

    A benefit car wash and raffle will be held from 8-11 a.m. today, June 15, in Applebee’s parking lot on U.S. 72 for an Athens child born premature and now in Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Car wash is $10 and participants receive a $5-off coupon for Appebee’s and are entered in a raffle later this month involving food items from several local  businesses. Donations welcome.     Flag Day
    Athens State University will host its annual Flag Day ceremony sponsored by the Athens State Alumni Association at noon, today, June 14, in the Sandridge Student Center ballroom. A cookout will follow. Guest speaker is Lt. Gen. Jim Pillsbury, the retired deputy-commanding general of the U.S. Army Materiel Command at Redstone Arsenal.
