MEETINGS

• American Legion. American Legion Post 49 will meet at 7 p.m. Monday.

• VVA. Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 51 will meet Tuesday. Fellowship begins at 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. The post is at Lucas Ferry Road and West Elm Street.

• AHS Class of ’56. Athens High School Class of 1956 will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Clark’s Restaurant. For more information, call (256) 232-5413.

• Piece Makers Quilt Guild. The Piece Makers Quilt Guild will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge at Lucas Ferry Road and Elm Street. The program will be a trunk show by Annette Byrd of Hartselle. For more information, call Joy Brewer at (256) 232-8944.

• Square dancing class. Shirts ’N’ Skirts Square Dance Club will offer a square dancing class beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Athens Recreation Center. For more information, call Neal Redwanz at (256) 355-1038.

• Retired educators. Athens-Limestone Retired Educators Association will meet at 10 a.m. Friday at Athens Recreation Center on Alabama 251. The program will be on self-defense and safety tips for seniors. For information, call (256) 232-6224.

    Coupon clipping
    Athens High School Future Business Leaders of America will host a coupon-clipping class from 6-8 tonight in the Athens High School cafeteria.  Tickets are $10 each in advance and may be purchased from any AHS FBLA member or by emailing Lori Jones or Brandi Foster at brandi.foster@acs-k12.org or lori.jones@acs-k12.org. Tickets are $15 at the door.

    A Relay Rally will be held Thursday at Athens Visitors Center at 100 N. Beaty St. Meet and greet 5:30-6 p.m., meeting 6-7. Open to anyone interested in information about the Relay For Life Limestone County event May 11-12. Food available for small donation. Gifts and door prizes. Committee meeting follows at 7.     A program titled “Occupy Culture and Diversity,” will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Athens State University ballroom to mark Black History Month. A reception will follow. Admission is free.
