Church Bulletin 9/9/12

• Candlelight March. Peace Missionary Baptist Church at 1214 Plainview Circle in Athens will hold its annual Mothers & Deacons Candlelight March at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9. Pastor J.E. Turnbore will preach at 11 a.m.; Kenneth Lankford, pastor of Fletcher’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker at 6 p.m. 

• Special services. First Baptist Church Tanner will hold a month of special Sunday services called Super September Sunday Nights. Music Evangelist Ronnie Cottingham will be at the church at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9.

• Centennial. Nebo Community Church at Jones Crossroads will celebrate 100 years during a homecoming celebration Sunday, Sept. 9. Events begin at 9 a.m. with morning worship. A congregational singing and gospel bluegrass will begin at 10:15 a.m. Members will serve lunch on the grounds from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a church history service led by Dave Hurst. Storyteller Debra Gooch will share highlights on Sunday school and vacation Bible school memories as well as reflections on former members who have contributed to the success of the church. The event will conclude with music from the Royal Masters Southern Gospel Quartet of Birmingham at 2 p.m. Contact: Kay Wilson at 256-527-3372. 

• Anniversary. Frazier Cumberland Methodist Episcopal Church at 1108 S. Hine St. will celebrate its 144th church anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 9. At the 10 a.m. worship service, the Rev. Ollie Hatchett Sr. of the Fifth Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church will be the guest speaker. At the 2 p.m. service, the Rev. Keith Ellison and the Phillips C.M.E. • Gospel meeting. The Church of Christ on Hughes Road in Madison will host a gospel meeting Sept. 9-14, featuring speaker Don Truex of Temple Terrace. Sunday services will be at typical worship times with a special congregational singing at 4 p.m.  Weeknight services are at 7 p.m. Contact: www.teachingtruth.org or 256-830-1654.

• Singing. Friendship Stateline Freewill Baptist Church at 13363 Stateline Road in Taft, Tenn., will host a gospel singing at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, featuring The Lovelace Family of Burnsville, Miss., and Denise Hopkins-Jaco of Toney. Contact: 256-423-4429.

• Tour. Lindsay Lane Baptist Church at 1300 Lindsay Lane in Athens will host Tenth Avenue North’s the Struggle Tour with special guests Audrey Assad and Rend Collective Experiment at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20. Tickets are $15-$35. Contact: 256-837-9293 or wayfm.com

• Homecoming. Peace Missionary Baptist Church at 1214 Plainview Circle in Athens will observe its annual Friends & Family Day and Homecoming Celebration at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23. Pastor J.E. Turnbore will deliver the message at 11 a.m.  Pastor James Jamar of St. John M.B. Church of Athens will preach at 2 p.m.

• Dessert comedy theater. Ascension Lutheran Church on Oakwood Avenue in Huntsville will host a performance of “Sweet Life,” featuring comedy and dessert at 7 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 29.   • Limestone Ledger 6/19/13

    FRIDAY
    Singing on the Square

    Singing on the Square will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, June 21, featuring Dixie Bluegrass Boys and Tilford Sellers and the Wagon Burners. In case of rain, the event will move to the Limestone County Event Center. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs to the east side of Limestone County Courthouse for the free concert.     Spaghetti supper

    SATURDAY
    Benefit car wash/raffle

    A benefit car wash and raffle will be held from 8-11 a.m. today, June 15, in Applebee’s parking lot on U.S. 72 for an Athens child born premature and now in Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Car wash is $10 and participants receive a $5-off coupon for Appebee’s and are entered in a raffle later this month involving food items from several local  businesses. Donations welcome.     FRIDAY
    Flag Day
    Athens State University will host its annual Flag Day ceremony sponsored by the Athens State Alumni Association at noon, today, June 14, in the Sandridge Student Center ballroom. A cookout will follow. Guest speaker is Lt. Gen. Jim Pillsbury, the retired deputy-commanding general of the U.S. Army Materiel Command at Redstone Arsenal.
